Everything in this guide, by stone:
Every year around the third week of October, the questions get bigger.
Not louder. Bigger. The kind that show up at 2am and don't accept a polite answer. Is this still what I want. Have I been pretending. What am I still carrying that isn't mine.
That's Scorpio season. The sun moves into Scorpio on 23 October 2026 and stays through 21 November — the stretch of the year when the light goes short, the ground goes hard, and everything you've been politely not looking at taps you on the shoulder.
I've stopped fighting it. At fifty-something, the 2am questions have usually been right. What I want during those four weeks isn't calming down — it's something on my body that reminds me I can look at the thing directly and still be fine.
That's what these five stones are for. Not fixing. Reminding.
What Scorpio season actually is
Scorpio is a fixed water sign ruled by Pluto, with Mars as its traditional ruler. Translated out of astrology-speak: deep feeling that doesn't move easily, pointed at whatever is buried.
It is not the doom season the internet makes it out to be. It's the composting season. The leaves fell in Libra; Scorpio is what happens underneath afterward — the part nobody photographs and everybody needs.

For a woman in the second half of her life, this lands differently than it does at twenty-five. You've already survived the thing you were afraid of. Scorpio season isn't threatening you with the depths. It's inviting you back down to collect something you left there.
Which is why the stones for this season aren't the soft ones. They have weight.
The five Scorpio season crystals
1. Labradorite — for seeing in low light
Labradorite is a feldspar that looks grey and unremarkable until it catches the light, and then it throws blue and gold from somewhere inside itself. Geologists call the effect labradorescence. Everyone else calls it the moment they decide they want the stone.
It has been worn as an intention for intuition and for the in-between — the space after one chapter and before the next has a name. Scorpio season is that space. If you only take one stone into these four weeks, take this one.
Wear it where you'll catch it moving: earrings that swing, or a bracelet that turns on your wrist while you're typing.
Labradorite Drop Earrings — $35. Third eye chakra, and the flash does the work. See the labradorite drop earrings, or browse the full labradorite collection.
If you want the geology and the folklore properly, I wrote the labradorite crystal guide for exactly that.
2. Obsidian — for the boundary
Obsidian isn't a crystal at all. It's volcanic glass — lava that cooled so fast the minerals never got the chance to organise themselves. Which is a very Scorpio origin story: something made permanent by moving too quickly to soften.
Traditionally worn as an intention for grounding and protection. I think of it as the stone that helps you finish a sentence you'd normally trail off from. Not aggression. Just a full stop.
Black reads as jewellery, not as a statement, which is the point — you can wear it into a difficult conversation and nobody knows it's armour but you.
Obsidian Stud Earrings — $45. Sterling silver, grounding, quiet. See the obsidian stud earrings, or browse the protection jewellery collection.

3. Malachite — for the decision you keep re-making
Green, banded, unmistakable. Malachite is a copper carbonate, which is why the green is that saturated — it's oxidised copper, the same chemistry that turns old roofs sea-green.
It sits with the heart chakra and has long been worn as an intention for transformation. Scorpio season has a habit of surfacing a decision you have already made three times and keep un-making. Malachite is for the fourth time, when you finally let it stay made.
It's a strong colour. Wear it against black or deep navy and it stops looking like a souvenir and starts looking deliberate.
Malachite Teardrop Necklace — $39. Heart chakra, and it wears with everything dark. See the malachite teardrop necklace, or browse the heart chakra collection.
4. Smoky quartz — for putting it down
Smoky quartz is ordinary quartz that spent time near natural radiation in the earth and came out the other side darker. It didn't break. It changed colour.
I don't think I need to explain why that resonates in your fifties.
It's the release stone of the group — worn as an intention for setting down what you've been hauling. Not forgetting it. Setting it down, which is different and harder.
It's also the one I'd hand a first-time crystal wearer. Nothing about it is dramatic, which is exactly why it stays in the rotation years later.
Smoky Quartz Root Chakra Bracelet — $28. Genuine natural smoky quartz, roughly 6 mm beads that run from pale champagne to deep smoke, so no two are the same. Adjustable sliding cord, no metal at all — which means no sizing, no nickel worries, and no taking it off at the sink. Root chakra, right wrist. See the smoky quartz bracelet, or browse root chakra jewellery.
5. Citrine — for the light on the other side
Four weeks of depth without a single warm thing in the mix is not devotion, it's exhaustion. Citrine is the counterweight.
It's quartz coloured by trace iron, and it belongs to the solar plexus — the part of you that decides things and then says them out loud. Traditionally worn as an intention for confidence and clarity.
It is also the November birthstone, which makes it the neat crossover piece: Scorpio energy and a birthday gift in the same stone. If you're shopping for a November Scorpio, this is the shortcut.
Citrine, Smoky Quartz & Opalite Bracelet — $68. This one puts two of the five stones on the same wrist. Bezel-set faceted ovals link to link, no filler chain — natural citrine in the paler honey-gold rather than the burnt-orange heat-treated kind, and natural smoky quartz as the grounding counterweight. The opalite is man-made glass and I say so on the listing; it's there for a milky blue-to-peach flash no natural stone in this range gives. Gold plated over brass, fits 7–9 inches with the extender. Pick your pairing at checkout. See the citrine and smoky quartz bracelet, or browse November birthstone jewellery.
Scorpio birthdays sit across two birthstones
This trips people up every year, so: Scorpio spans the end of October and most of November, which means a Scorpio's birthstone depends on which side of the calendar she landed on.
- Born 23–31 October: opal and tourmaline. Iridescent, unpredictable, a little bit of everything — see October birthstone jewellery.
- Born 1–21 November: citrine and topaz. Warm, golden, direct — see November birthstone jewellery.
If you'd rather see the whole year laid out, the complete birthstone guide by month covers all twelve, and the birthstone collection is sorted the same way.
A Scorpio season practice that takes four minutes
No altar required. No smoke unless you like smoke.
- Write one sentence. The one you'd normally soften. Longhand, on paper, where nobody will read it.
- Put the stone on the paper. Whichever piece you're wearing this season. Leave it there while you finish your coffee.
- Decide what the sentence needs — to be said out loud to someone, or to be set down. One or the other. Not both, not neither.
- Put the piece on. Wear it until the season turns. When you catch it in a window, you'll remember which you chose.
That's it. The jewellery doesn't do the work. You do. The piece just refuses to let you forget you started.
Where I actually do this
There's a deck off my bedroom. Nobody can see it from the street, which is most of why I love it — it's the one part of my house that isn't for anybody else.
It is styled, though. Anything I touch or look at every day is worth the effort of making it look nice, so it got the effort: IKEA wooden tiles underfoot, French-inspired tiles layered in, everything chosen on purpose. Small space, entirely mine.

I read out there. I go through the Friday playlist and decide which songs earn a save. I watch the neighbourhood do its thing. Boo and I watch the moon, which is a two-person job apparently.
It's also where the crystals go out to sit in the moonlight, where the sage gets lit, and where I do my own ceremonies — the ones with no audience and no correct method. My burning bowl lives there too, a bowl that has grown over the years from something that fit in my palm to something that does not, which tells you more about the last decade than I'd like it to.
You don't need a deck. You need one spot that is yours, and a season honest enough to send you to it.
How to wear it without looking like a mood board
Scorpio season styling is one dark stone and one warm metal. That's the whole formula.
Obsidian studs with a gold chain. Labradorite drops with a black polo neck. Malachite on navy. If you're layering, keep the lengths obviously different — a short pendant and a long chain read as intentional; two similar lengths read as an accident.
And one piece is enough. The point of this season is depth, not volume.
Still deciding? The Gemstone Quiz matches you to a stone by the chapter you're in — it takes about a minute. If you'd rather work from where you feel it in your body, the Chakra Quiz starts from the other end.

Scorpio season crystal questions
Q: When is Scorpio season 2026?
A: The sun enters Scorpio on 23 October 2026 at 3:38 AM Mountain and leaves just after midnight on 22 November, which makes 21 November the last full day of the season. If you were born on a cusp date, check your birth time before you claim the sign.
Q: What is the best crystal for Scorpio?
A: If you want one, labradorite. It suits the whole season rather than one mood of it — intuition, the in-between, and enough visual drama to satisfy a sign that does not do subtle sincerely.
Q: What is the Scorpio birthstone?
A: There are two, because the sign crosses two months. Opal and tourmaline for late-October Scorpios; citrine and topaz for November ones. Topaz is the traditional Scorpio stone in older lists, which is why you'll see it named most often.
Q: Can I wear these if I'm not a Scorpio?
A: Yes. Nobody checks. Seasonal stones are about the four weeks everyone is living through, not about your natal chart — a Taurus can want a boundary in November as much as anyone.
Q: How do I look after these stones?
A: Malachite and obsidian both dislike ultrasonic cleaners and harsh chemicals; a dry soft cloth is enough for most of it. Genuine stone on cord wants to stay out of lotion and perfume and dry fully if it gets wet. The full method is in the crystal care guide.
Q: Is this a good gift for a Scorpio?
A: It's one of the easier signs to shop for, because the aesthetic is consistent — dark stone, warm metal, nothing pastel. Citrine covers the November birthday and the season at once, which is why it's the piece I recommend most in that window.
Every piece is Canadian-designed and ships in a satin jewellery pouch, with free shipping over $75 CAD and a 45-day happiness guarantee. Gift messages are free if it's going straight to her.
