What rose quartz actually is

Quartz with trace minerals — usually titanium or manganese — that turn it pink. The colour is almost always soft and cloudy rather than vivid; genuinely transparent rose quartz is rare and priced accordingly. If you see a piece that's intensely, evenly hot pink and cheap, it has been dyed.

Because it's genuine. Natural rose quartz is soft and cloudy. Vivid, even, hot-pink quartz is almost always dyed — pale is the honest colour.

Will it fade?

In direct sunlight, yes, and permanently. Don't store it on a windowsill or leave it in a car. Normal daily wear is fine.
