What Colour Is the November Birthstone?
Gold, mostly. Citrine runs from pale lemon through honey to a deep orange-brown the trade calls madeira. Topaz is the shape-shifter: it comes in nearly every colour, but the golden, honey and imperial tones are the classic November shades. Blue topaz is topaz too, and it's also the popular December alternative, so a blue topaz birthday can belong to either month.
Why One Citrine Costs More Than Another
Here's the thing most citrine guides won't tell you: a great deal of the citrine on the market is heat-treated amethyst. Both are quartz. Amethyst's purple comes from trace iron plus natural irradiation, and applying heat reverses that and shifts the stone toward golden yellow. It's the same mineral either way, and treated citrine is a perfectly legitimate stone. What matters is that the seller says so.
Natural citrine tends toward a smokier, more muted honey tone. Heat-treated citrine is often more saturated and orange, sometimes with a white base where the colour thins out. Neither is fake. One just costs more. Beyond that, it's the usual rule: clarity and colour drive the price, not authenticity. What Does Citrine Mean?
Citrine has been called the Merchant's Stone for generations, the one shopkeepers kept in the till for a good day's trade. It's tied to the solar plexus chakra: confidence, motivation, the part of you that gets up and does the thing. Its other job is joy, the plain, warm, uncomplicated kind.
It's the stone I reach for personally when something needs doing and I'd rather not. It won't do the thing for you. But a bit of gold at your wrist on a grey afternoon is a decent reminder that you meant to.

Topaz: The Stone of Clarity, and Which One Is Yours
Topaz is the clarity stone: emotional balance, clear thinking, and the steadiness to say the hard thing kindly. Traditionally it sits with the throat and crown chakras.
Topaz is November's stone in every colour. The golden, honey and imperial tones are the classic November shades: warm, autumnal, and a natural partner to citrine.

In Calgary it's the potted mum on every front step that somehow survives the first snow and the second. It blooms when everything else has given up for the year, which makes it a fitting partner for citrine: warmth, right when it's least expected.
November's Sky, Briefly
