A tiny mantra drum at your ear or your collarbone, with a flash of turquoise blue.

A Tibetan prayer wheel holds a mantra — most often om mani padme hum, the mantra of compassion — and turning it is held to be the same as saying it. This one carries that shape in silver plate, finished with a blue glass bead in a turquoise colour: a quiet reminder that you don't need the perfect words for your intention to count.

Wear it as earrings, as a necklace, or as the pair. Bought separately: $70. Together: $65.

Honest Note: This Wheel Barely Turns

The drum moves a little, but it won't spin all the way round. This is the prayer wheel you wear, not the one you turn through a long night. A prayer wheel belongs to Tibetan Buddhism, a living tradition, and wearing one well means knowing what it holds and which way it turns (clockwise) — the whole story is in my prayer wheel meaning guide.

Materials & Details

  • Prayer wheel: 32 mm
  • Metal: silver-plated base metal
  • Bead: blue glass in a turquoise colour — not natural turquoise, and not a gemstone
  • Wheel action: turns partway, does not spin fully
  • Necklace length: choose 41 cm / 16 in, 46 cm / 18 in or 51 cm / 20 in
  • Ear wire: choose leverback (secure closure) or classic shepherd’s hook
  • Choose: necklace $35, earrings $35, or the set $65

Care

Plated metal likes to stay dry: take it off for showers and swims, wipe it with a soft cloth, and store it in its pouch. More in my jewellery cleaning guide.
