What the crown chakra handles
Sahasrara sits at the top of the head and governs perspective — the wide view, the sense of being connected to something past your own immediate week. It's the last of the seven and the one people reach for when they're not in crisis exactly, just lost in the weeds.
Out of balance it reads as cynicism, or as being so far in the detail that nothing means anything. The remedy isn't more thinking. It's less.
The stones
Clear quartz is the crown stone and the most useful stone in the shop generally. It amplifies whatever it sits beside, which makes it the piece that sharpens a whole stack rather than doing one job.
Amethyst governs Crown as well as Third Eye — both, genuinely, not a shortcut. Violet is the crown colour, and amethyst is the most-worn version of it.
Selenite is white, soft and luminous, traditionally used for clearing rather than carrying. One important caution: selenite dissolves in water. Not dulls — dissolves.
Moonstone bridges Crown and Third Eye, and is the gentler option if clear quartz feels too sharp.
Choosing the piece
Crown work suits pendants and earrings more than bracelets — higher on the body, closer to the centre it belongs to. Clear quartz points and faceted drops are the traditional shapes.
Clear quartz is 7 on the Mohs scale and handles anything. Selenite is 2, which is genuinely soft — it scratches with a fingernail, so it belongs on a pendant rather than a ring.
Pairing
Clear quartz goes with everything, which is the point of it. Amethyst with clear quartz is the standard crown pairing. If you want the crown grounded rather than floaty — and most people do — add smoky quartz or hematite from the root collection. Top and bottom of the system together is a more stable combination than either alone.
Care
Selenite must stay dry. No water, ever — it's gypsum and it will pit and dissolve. Amethyst fades in direct sunlight, permanently. Clear quartz is hard-wearing and forgiving. Warm water and mild soap for everything except selenite, no ultrasonic cleaners. More in the crystal care guide.
Common questions
Which crown chakra stone should I start with?
Clear quartz. It's the crown stone, it's hard-wearing, and it works with every other piece you own.
Can selenite get wet?
No — and this is the one to remember. Selenite is gypsum and dissolves in water. Not dulls. Dissolves. Keep it dry, always.
Why is amethyst listed under two chakras?
Because it governs both Crown and Third Eye. That's the tradition, not a filing error.
Crown feels floaty — what balances it?
A root stone. Smoky quartz or hematite alongside clear quartz gives you perspective without drifting. Top and bottom of the system together is the steadier combination.
Is clear quartz worth buying if it's common?
It's the most useful stone here. Common means available, not lesser — and it amplifies whatever it's worn with.
Are the stones genuine?
Every listing states which it is: genuine, lab-created, hydro quartz or glass.
