What the third eye handles

Ajna sits between the brows and governs intuition — knowing a thing before you can explain it, and usually a week before anyone believes you. It's the sixth centre, and the one people are most sheepish about naming, which is a shame given how often it turns out to have been right.

Out of balance it reads as second-guessing your own read on a situation, or as talking yourself out of an instinct because you couldn't produce evidence on demand.

The stones

Amethyst is the primary one and governs Crown as well. Purple, calm, and the most-worn crystal on earth for good reason.

Labradorite is the transition stone — grey until light hits it, then blue. Third eye by association and mid-change by temperament, which is when instinct matters most.

Lapis lazuli bridges Throat and Third Eye: knowing it and then saying it, which are two different problems.

Fluorite is the underrated one — green through purple, often banded in a single stone, traditionally associated with mental clarity and cutting through confusion.

Sodalite and moonstone round it out: sodalite for rational clarity, moonstone for the softer, more receptive version.

Symbol or stone

Two different collections, and people arrive wanting different things. This page is the stones — amethyst, labradorite, lapis, fluorite. Choosing the piece

Earrings and pendants sit closest to this centre. Amethyst drops and labradorite studs are the everyday versions; a labradorite pendant shows the flash best, since a curved cabochon gathers light from more angles than a faceted cut.

Amethyst is 7 on the Mohs scale and takes daily wear. Labradorite and fluorite are softer — 6 to 6.5 and 4 respectively — and better as pendants and earrings than as rings.

Pairing

Amethyst with clear quartz is the standard, and sharpens everything. Labradorite with moonstone is the transition pairing. If intuition work makes you feel unmoored, add a root stone — smoky quartz or hematite keeps the whole thing anchored.

Care
